Vineyards

The largest of our estate owned vineyards - Kondoli Vineyards, have been cultivated for generations. In his book of 1745 - “Life of Georgia”, the famous Georgian historian Vakhushti Batonishvili mentioned Kondoli Vineyards as a source of noble wines. For three centuries these vines have been the benchmark of quality, giving rise to the best wines of Kakheti region.

Our expansive Kudigora vineyard, stretching over 30.5 hectares, is dedicated solely to the noble Saperavi vines. Nestled along the left bank of the Alazani River, it lies at the heart of the celebrated Kindzmarauli PDO, one of Georgia's most renowned wine regions. Adding to our vineyards is the Didkure Vineyard, a stunning new site planted in early 2020. Perched on the northern slopes of the majestic Caucasus Mountains, this 23-hectare vineyard nurtures both local and international grape varieties, showcasing the diversity of our winemaking.

At our vineyards, we follow the traditional vine training methods of Kakheti, either double Guyot or double Cordon. The vine density ranges from 3,400 to 5,000 vines per hectare, with a yield strictly capped at 9 tons per hectare for our standard wines. For our premium selections, we meticulously green harvest specific plots to reduce the yield to just 4-5 tons per hectare, ensuring that the remaining grapes are of the highest possible quality, reflecting our commitment to excellence.

Situated on the right bank of the Alazani River, at an altitude of 350-450 meters above sea level, Kondoli Vineyards covers over 300 hectares within the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) of Tsinandali. The vineyard is home to a diverse range of grape varieties, with 70% planted with red grapes and 30% with white grapes. The majority of the vines are indigenous varieties, such as Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Alexandrouli, Mtsvane and Kisi. We also dedicate a small area to international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Chardonnay and Riesling.

The terrain is composed of alluvial, strongly skeletal, loamy soil on a limestone bedrock. Climate here is transitional, ranging from humid subtropical to continental, influenced by the great Caucasus Mountains from the left bank of Alazani River and Tsiv-Gombori mountain range from the right. Cold air flows down the valley from the Caucasus glaciers, forming an ambient microclimate for quality viticulture with large swings between day and night temperatures, thus, ensuring perfect grape ripening conditions.
