Georgia, hailed as the birthplace of winemaking, also boasts a rich tradition in Chacha distillation dating back to the early 19th century. Leveraging our expertise, Telavi Wine Cellar embarked on a pioneering venture: subjecting Marani Chacha to sea ageing. Inspired by ancient voyages, our experiment aimed to enhance maturation through constant motion, temperature variations, and optimal humidity aboard sea vessels.
Departing in December 2022 from Poti, Georgia, Marani Chacha undertook a 9-month journey across seas and oceans with multiple ports of call around the world, namely, Turkey, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Spain, and Greece, among others. Remarkably, it crossed the Equator four times and sailed around 61,500 nautical miles, which is equivalent to 114,000 km, further enriching its character and flavors along the way.
Returning from this global odyssey, the sea-aged Chacha was meticulously refined in our underground cellar and blended with spring water, resulting in the exquisite MARANI CHACHA EQVATOR PUREMARE.
